Glutathione is synthesized in two ATP-dependent steps. First, gamma-glutamylcysteine synthetase links glutamate and cysteine; second, glutathione synthetase adds glycine to form the complete tripeptide. The pathway is feedback-inhibited by GSH itself, which helps maintain steady intracellular levels. Tissues vary widely in glutathione content, with the liver typically containing the highest concentrations, followed by the kidneys, lungs, and erythrocytes. Because cysteine is often limiting, its availability influences synthesis rates, and regulation of this pathway varies by cell type.
Glutathione serves as a cofactor for several enzymes, including glutathione peroxidase and glutathione S-transferase. These enzymes help reduce hydrogen peroxide and lipid peroxides, and they conjugate reactive electrophiles for excretion. The molecule also acts as a reservoir for cysteine, an amino acid that is prone to oxidation. In addition, glutathione participates in the metabolism of nitric oxide, leukotrienes, and prostaglandins. Its roles extend to cell signaling, apoptosis, and the regulation of protein function through S-glutathionylation.
Commercial glutathione is available in research-grade, food-grade, and supplement-grade forms, and purity specifications differ accordingly. Certificates of analysis commonly report identity by nuclear magnetic resonance or mass spectrometry, purity by HPLC, residual solvents, and heavy metals. Reference standards with assigned purity support calibration, while isotopically labeled glutathione can serve as an internal standard for mass spectrometry. For supplements, label claims may not be independently verified, and regulatory oversight varies by country. Verification often involves third-party testing for identity, potency, and contaminants.
Quantifying glutathione requires distinguishing GSH from GSSG and preventing oxidation during sample preparation. Common approaches include the enzymatic recycling assay, often called the Tietze method, which measures total glutathione after converting GSSG to GSH. HPLC with ultraviolet or fluorescence detection and LC-MS/MS can separate and quantify both forms, sometimes after derivatization of the thiol group. Blood, plasma, and tissue samples differ in matrix and baseline concentrations, so method validation must account for recovery, linearity, and interference. No single assay is universally standard.

Starting in April 1978, all free-ranging mustangs and burros rounded up by the BLM or the U.S. Forest Service have been freeze branded on the left side of the neck using Farrell's Alpha-Angle system. This is generally done at a short-term holding facility along with basic medical care like vaccination and deworming. Captured mustangs then enter the BLM's adoption program. Capture, branding, medical screening and adoption have long been the preferred means of controlling feral horse populations in the US. So efficient is Farrell's system and so successful was this tagging project that since the early 1980s it has become extremely rare to run across an adult mustang without a freeze brand. The BLM uses the following sequence for identification:
=== Atomic number === In chemistry, the number of protons in the nucleus of an atom is known as the atomic number, which determines the chemical element to which the atom belongs. For example, the atomic number of chlorine is 17; this means that each chlorine atom has 17 protons and that all atoms with 17 protons are chlorine atoms. The chemical properties of each atom are determined by the number of (negatively charged) electrons, which for neutral atoms is equal to the number of (positive) protons so that the total charge is zero. For example, a neutral chlorine atom has 17 protons and 17 electrons, whereas a Cl− anion has 17 protons and 18 electrons for a total charge of −1 e. All atoms of a given element are not necessarily identical, however. The number of neutrons may vary to form different isotopes, and energy levels may differ, resulting in different nuclear isomers. For example, there are two stable isotopes of chlorine: 3517Cl with 35 − 17 = 18 neutrons and 3717Cl with 37 − 17 = 20 neutrons.
The Legislative Council has 90 members, each serving a four-year term. Twenty are directly elected from geographical constituencies, thirty represent functional constituencies (FC), and forty are local chosen by an election committee consisting of representatives appointed by the Chinese central government. Thirty FC councillors are selected from limited electorates representing sectors of the economy or special interest groups. Geographical constituency elected members are chosen by single non-transferable vote (SNTV), yielding two candidates per GC. The 30 limited electorate functional constituencies fill their seats using first-past-the-post or instant-runoff voting. Twenty-two political parties had representatives elected to the Legislative Council in the 2016 election. These parties have aligned themselves into three ideological groups: the pro-Beijing camp (the current government), the pro-democracy camp, and localist groups. However, by 2021, the pro-democracy camp and the localist groups lost all representation in the Legislative Council as a result of the 2021 electoral changes imposed by the National People's Congress, and since 2025 all 90 members of the Legislative Council have been from the pro-Beijing camp. The Chinese Communist Party does not have an official political presence in Hong Kong, and it does not contest local elections.
== Preparation == According to a recent study on cannabinoid concentration and stability in preparations of cannabis oil and tea, a boiling period of fifteen minutes was found to be sufficient in order to reach the highest concentrations of cannabinoids in tea solutions. However, preparation of cannabis oil in the study was found to ensure a higher stability of cannabinoids than that which was found in preparation of cannabis tea. To produce psychoactive effects, cannabis used in tea must first be decarboxylated. As with regular tea, spices are often added. Typically, the tea is allowed to simmer for 5–10 minutes.
== Mechanism of action == The principal mechanism of the epothilone class is the inhibition of the microtubule function. Microtubules are essential to cell division, and epothilones, therefore, stop cells from properly dividing. Epothilone B possesses the same biological effects as paclitaxel both in vitro and in cultured cells. This is because they share the same binding site, as well as binding affinity to the microtubule. Like paclitaxel, epothilone B binds to the αβ-tubulin heterodimer subunit. Once bound, the rate of αβ-tubulin dissociation decreases, thus stabilizing the microtubules. Furthermore, epothilone B has also been shown to induce tubulin polymerization into microtubules without the presence of GTP. This is caused by the formation of microtubule bundles throughout the cytoplasm. Finally, epothilone B also causes cell cycle arrest at the G2-M transition phase, thus leading to cytotoxicity and eventually cell apoptosis. The ability of epothilone to inhibit spindle function is generally attributed to its suppression of microtubule dynamics; but recent studies have demonstrated that suppression of dynamics occurs at concentrations lower than those needed to block mitosis. At higher antimitotic concentrations, paclitaxel appears to act by suppressing microtubule detachment from centrosomes, a process that is normally activated during mitosis. It is quite possible that epothilone can also act through a similar mechanism.

Minerals are the exogenous chemical elements indispensable for life. Although the four elements carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen (CHON) are essential for life, they are so plentiful in food and drink that these are not considered nutrients and there are no recommended intakes for these as minerals. The need for nitrogen is addressed by requirements set for protein, which is composed of nitrogen-containing amino acids. Sulfur is essential, but again does not have a recommended intake. Instead, recommended intakes are identified for the sulfur-containing amino acids methionine and cysteine. The essential nutrient trace elements for humans, listed in order of recommended dietary allowance (expressed as a mass), are potassium, chloride, sodium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, zinc, manganese, copper, iodine, chromium, molybdenum, and selenium. Additionally, cobalt is a component of vitamin B12 which is essential. There are other minerals which are essential for some plants and animals, but may or may not be essential for humans, such as boron and silicon.
In addition to the PFC, there is moderate to high expression of serotonin 5-HT2A receptors in the primary visual cortex (V1), as well as expression of the serotonin 5-HT2A receptor in other visual areas, and activation of these receptors may contribute to or mediate the visual effects of serotonergic psychedelics. Serotonergic psychedelics also directly or indirectly modulate a variety of other brain areas, like the claustrum, and this may be involved in their effects as well. Psychedelics may work in part by disrupting the default mode network (DMN), a collection of interconnected brain areas which has high serotonin 5-HT2A receptor expression and is said to construct our sense of space, time, and self. The ego dissolution and altered time perception caused by psychedelics correlates with DMN desynchronization, whereas psychedelic visual imagery correlates with disruption in the visual cortex. Serotonin, as well as drugs that increase serotonin levels, like the serotonin precursor 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP), serotonin reuptake inhibitors, and serotonin releasing agents, are non-hallucinogenic in humans despite increasing activation of serotonin 5-HT2A receptors. Serotonin is a hydrophilic molecule which cannot easily cross biological membranes without active transport, and the serotonin 5-HT2A receptor is usually expressed as a cell surface receptor that is readily accessible to extracellular serotonin.
The now elderly McCormick reunites with the also elderly Helen and asks her to marry him; she happily accepts, proving that true love does indeed last forever. McCormick introduces Nat to Helen, and the film ends with the three joining hands and going for a seaside stroll together.
Benzoctamine is a drug that possesses sedative and anxiolytic properties. Marketed as Tacitin by Ciba-Geigy, it is different from most sedative drugs because in most clinical trials it does not produce respiratory depression, but actually stimulates the respiratory system. As a result, when compared to other sedative and anxiolytic drugs such as benzodiazepines like diazepam, it is a safer form of tranquilizing. However, when co-administered with other drugs that cause respiratory depression, like morphine, it can cause increased respiratory depression. Medically, benzoctamine is used as a treatment for anxious outpatients to control aggression, enuresis, fear, and minor social maladjustment in children. Its anxiolytic effects are most similar to diazepam, another anxiolytic, but unlike diazepam, benzoctamine has antagonistic effects on epinephrine and norepinephrine, and appears to increase serotonin levels. While little is understood about how it carries out its effects, studies point to reduced serotonin, epinephrine, and norepinephrine as partial causes of its pharmacologic and behavioral effects. Animal studies have shown sedative hypnotic drugs tend to show dependency in animals, but benzoctamine has been shown to not be addictive. Other animal studies also point to the drug as a possible mechanism by which to reduce blood pressure through the adrenergic system. Chemically, benzoctamine belongs to the class of compounds called dibenzobicyclo-octadienes.

The daily intake of HMF may underlie high variations due to individual consumption-patterns. It has been estimated that the intakes range between 4 mg - 30 mg per person per day, while an intake of up to 350 mg can result from, e.g., beverages made from dried plums.
anticodon A series of three consecutive nucleotides within a transfer RNA which complement the three nucleotides of a codon within an mRNA transcript. During translation, each tRNA recruited to the ribosome contains a single anticodon triplet that pairs with its complementary codon from the mRNA sequence, allowing each codon to specify a particular amino acid to be added to the growing peptide chain. Anticodons containing inosine in the first position are capable of pairing with more than one codon due to a phenomenon known as wobble base pairing.
In 1976, economist Rudolf Meidner established a study committee that came up with a proposal called the Meidner Plan which entailed the transferring of the excess profits into investment funds controlled by the workers in said efficient firms, with the goal that firms would create further employment and pay workers higher wages in return rather than unduly increasing the wealth of company owners and managers. Capitalists immediately denounced the proposal as socialism and launched an unprecedented opposition and smear campaign against it, threatening to terminate the class compromise established in the 1938 Saltsjöbaden Agreement.
Mutations in CaV1.2, a voltage gated Ca2+ channel, lead to Timothy syndrome, which causes severe cardiac arrhythmia (long-QT) along with syndactyly and similar craniofacial defects to Andersen-Tawil syndrome including cleft or high-arched palate, micrognathia, low set ears, syndactyly and brachydactyly. While these channelopathies are rare, they show that functional ion channels are important for development. Furthermore, in utero exposure to anti-epileptic medications that target some ion channels also cause increased incidence of birth defects such as oral cleft. The effects of both genetic and exogenous disruption of ion channels lend insight into the importance of bioelectric signaling in development.

Glutathione is a tripeptide of three amino acids: glutamate, cysteine, and glycine. The cysteine residue provides the sulfhydryl group that gives the molecule its reducing properties.
GSH is the reduced form, which contains a free sulfhydryl group. GSSG is the oxidized form, formed when two GSH molecules join through a disulfide bond. The ratio of GSH to GSSG is often used to assess cellular redox status.
No, glutathione is synthesized endogenously in most cells. It is not classified as an essential nutrient because the body can produce it from amino acid precursors. Dietary sources exist, but they are not required to maintain life.
The ratio depends on rapid separation or blocking of GSH before oxidation occurs. GSSG can be formed ex vivo if samples are not processed quickly in cold, acidic conditions. Even small delays can shift the apparent ratio, making standardized protocols essential.
